Our Nerd Herd team had the privilege of speaking with the 4-H Teen Senate of Gettysburg.
We presented the basics of our business model and our young employees shared what they have learned by being co-managers at Gettysburg's only student managed business.
Then we couldn't pass up the opportunity to play a game with them!
Nerd Herd teens have had a great time hosting this event for area kids, their families and LIU teachers and interpreters for two years in a row.
Event organizer and Nerd Herd teen, Emma, volunteered at Conewago Township Elementary School in Hanover, where the Lincoln Intermediate Unit (LIU) provides special assistance needed by deaf and hard-of-hearing children. She continues to be a student in learning American Sign Language (ASL).
Emma and other interpreters enabled lively conversation among the event’s non-hearing and hearing participants while all enjoyed playing games together.
Nerd Herd teens proudly broadcast their love and acceptance during Gettysburg Pride weekend by hosting an event called "Pride Rocks".
Everyone was invited to paint rocks that could then be left around town during the peaceful Pride March. More than 200 rocks were painted!
Into the darkest night and with cauldrons in hand, the Nerd Herd crew straightened their hats and set off on a journey to find out from all, "Witch kind of Nerd are you?". They shared the Halloween love by passing out Nerds candy and a custom Nerd Herd bookmark/coupon along the parade route!
The newest addition to our crew, Nerd Car, donned her orange Nerd glasses and blackest witches hat to join us in our quest!
Here at Nerd Herd, we know the power of play. It teaches cognitive skills, physical activity, confidence, social skills, concentration and so much more!
Over several weeks each season, our teens were excited to introduce the kids of Lincoln Elementary's After School Program to the broad categories of games and show them that learning can be fun through play!
Some of our Nerd Herd team taught participants how to play Star Wars X-Wing in our original store location for the cleverly named "I Am Your Father's Day" event!
